A: Most likely you won’t. Here’s the thing... you qualify as a utilitarian journeyman. This is not the place to be if you want to make radio your career. You are probably an adequate air personality who, for some reason is passed over when and if opening do arise. You also do a great job of filling the voids in station staffing when needed. This is an employee that all stations need and jack of all trades employees are cherished because they fills gaps. Congratulations, you are equivalent to tube of caulk, you fill gaps but no one thinks about you after you’ve filled the crack.
The first thing you need to do is find a new job somewhere else where you can establish yourself as a full time talent! If your current employer has not promoted you in six years of service they certainly won’t promote you even if you spend another six years filling their cracks. It is possible that your skill set just doesn’t mesh with you manager(s) vision for that property. It may not mean that you’re not good enough. It may simply mean that you’re a puzzle piece that doesn’t really fit their puzzle. Find a new puzzle!
You’re working part time now... take on a new part time job of finding a station that sees your abilities as the puzzle piece that fits! Think of your new part time job (of finding a job) as a commission based endeavor. You’ll get a check when you land the new job.
