A: Your PD is stressing the basics either because you need to master rhythm and timing before you move on to intermediate skills OR your PD is leaning on the only stuff he can mentor you in. Either way there is so much more to the gig than call sign, name of song, liner card and your name... in any order you wish.
Your talent experience is partially dictated by the kind of environment your radio station provides. Creativity is a limitless medium that can make every break you do no matter how small meaningful and rewarding.
No matter where you are it is up to you to make the most of terrain you are allowed to wonder. Master the basics, on the air and in extra curricular sessions away from the studio. Do set prep. Do show prep. Gather resources on the subject of entertaining. There is a lot of info out there waiting to be gleaned.
Most important don’t be afraid to fail. Try things, execute concepts, broaden your entertaining mind.
